A calm, steady place to work things through.
I'm Dr Jonathan Toussaint, a counsellor and family therapist. For more than twenty-five years I've sat with people at hard and hopeful moments in their lives, and helped them find a way forward that feels like their own.
What brings you here today?
There's no wrong answer, and nothing is decided by choosing. It just helps me point you to the right place to start.
Not sure, or it's more than one of these? That's completely normal. Just send a short message and we'll work out where to start.
Gentle, safe and never rushed.
My style is strengths-based and trauma-informed. I start with what is already working in your life, and build from there, drawing on whichever approaches fit you rather than a one-size formula.
We start where you are
No forms to perform to and no pressure to have the right words. We begin with what feels most pressing to you.
Strengths first, not just problems
You already have ways of coping and things that matter to you. Good therapy builds on those rather than starting from zero.
The approach fits you
I draw on cognitive behavioural therapy, focused psychological strategies, psycho-education and emotion-focused therapy, chosen for what suits you.
A whole-of-life view
Feelings, relationships, health and history are connected. We hold the bigger picture while we work on what's in front of us.

Experience you can lean on.
I hold a PhD in health science from Charles Sturt University and a Master of Humanities in psychology from the University of Tasmania. I'm an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker and a qualified counsellor, and I've spent more than twenty-five years working with individuals, couples and families, and teaching others in the field.
What that means for you is simple: a steady, experienced person in the room, and the confidence that you're in careful hands.
Reaching out is often the hardest part. The rest we take gently, together.
Tell me a little about what is going on. There is no pressure and no obligation, and I read every enquiry myself before replying.
